BUSHENYI- The Bishop of West Ankole Diocese has appointed Rev. Canon Arthur Atwiine as the new Education Secretary, replacing the late Rev. Bernard Mushabe, who recently succumbed to cancer at Mulago Hospital.
Can. Atwiine’s appointment was announced by Mr Bright Niwaha, the diocesan information officer, on Wednesday, 4th February.
Can. Atwiine, the former West Ankole Diocesan Secretary, will be deputised by Mr Francis Magezi, the former head teacher of Bugongi secondary school.
At the time of appointment, Can Atwiine was serving as the Archdeacon of Kitagata in Sheema district and Chairperson of the Board of Jubilee Sacco, a diocesan financial institution.
A senior clergyman now, Canon Atwiine served as the diocesan administrator during the turbulent times when a cross-section of Christians from Sheema district engaged in legal battles against the establishment at Bweranyangi Hill.
Peace would later abound with the arrival of Bishop Twinomujuni as the fourth bishop of West Ankole Diocese, who came preaching the gospel of love and reconciliation in 2017.
Canon Atwiine, a teacher by profession and clergy by calling, arrives with a rich experience in education, institutional management and resource mobilisation, having served in different roles in several educational institutions across the diocese.
Mr Apollo Lee Kakonge, a Christian from Kyanyakatura Archdeaconry, welcomed Atwiine’s appointment as the best the diocese could have landed.
Other appointments made by Bishop Twinomujuni include Rev. Canon Bethel Namara, who has been transferred from Kyanyakatura to Kitagata Archdeaconry, Rev. Canon Wilson Amukwatse from Rwabutura to Kyanyakatura and Rev. Agaba Samson from Bugongi to Rwabutura.
