KAMPALA- Police in Kampala are investigating an incident in which an unidentified man dropped a gun at Tausi Bus Terminal and disappeared.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, the firearm was discovered by the Mbarara-bound bus conductor, who found it in the luggage.
“It is alleged that on 14th April 2026 at about 0500 hours, a bus conductor, while loading passengers onto a bus bound for Mbarara, was approached by an unknown passenger who requested to have his luggage transported. As part of routine checks, the conductor asked the passenger to open the bag for inspection, but he declined.” Said Kawala
The unknown passenger’s refusal to have his bag checked raised suspicion, causing the conductor to physically check the luggage before alerting security authorities.
“The refusal raised suspicion, prompting the conductor to check the luggage physically. In doing so, he detected an object resembling a firearm and immediately alerted authorities.”
A police task team swiftly responded to the scene, and upon inspection, an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine and no ammunition was recovered. The weapon had been concealed in a white polythene bag, which was further packed inside a bag.
Kawala said the suspect fled the scene and remains at large, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend him as investigations continue.
