FORT PORTAL —Leaders and candidates from opposition political parties, the National Unity Platform (NUP) and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), in the Tooro sub-region today announced a joint political arrangement aimed at strengthening the opposition and jointly mobilising support ahead of the 2026 general elections.
They announced during a press conference held in Fort Portal on Monday 5th January 2026, where leaders from the two parties revealed that they had agreed to work together in mobilising voters across the Tooro sub-region under an alliance they have named United Forces of Change.
According to the NUP Coordinator for the Tooro sub-region, Davis Rwamuhumbu, the alliance will help address key issues that have hindered development among the people of Tooro sub-region.
He added that by campaigning together in different areas within Fort Portal City, the opposition leaders will be able to make a difference in leadership and also service delivery.
Jackline Atuhaire, the NUP Flag bearer for Fort Portal City Woman Member of Parliament, pledged to deliver on promises that have remained unfulfilled, including the industrial park in Kabarole to help skill the youth.
“We need to engage our youth through industries by demanding our industrial park that was meant to be at Kyembogo which has not been given to us so that the youth can also develop themselves” Jackline noted.
Meanwhile, Ajuna J. Adaka, the FDC flag bearer contesting for Member of Parliament, Fort Portal Central Division, said that the cooperation will strengthen their chances of gaining representation at the national level.
“I urge our supporters to vote for NUP candidates in case the seat doesn’t have an FDC candidate and vice versa because we want to make a statement as the Tooro sub-region to have opposition representatives on the national level,” said Ajuna.
