FORT PORTAL – The District Khadi of the Tooro Region, Sheikh Abdul Hakim, has called upon Muslims to embrace forgiveness and mercy, describing them as essential pillars for fostering peace among humanity and harmony within the environment.
Sheikh Hakim made this appeal on Friday morning during Eid al-Fitr prayers held at the Fort Portal Main Mosque.
In his sermon, Sheikh Hakim reflected on the ongoing conflicts across the world, noting that they illustrate the devastating consequences of abandoning mercy and compassion.
He cited the tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States of America, which continue to affect many Arab nations, as well as the suffering in Gaza, where innocent civilians bear the greatest burden of violence.
The Khadi emphasized that forgiveness and mercy are not signs of weakness, but rather powerful virtues that can heal divisions and restore peace.
“If we learn to forgive, and if we show mercy even when we have power over others, these wars can come to an end,” he said.
He urged the faithful to begin by practicing mercy within their homes, neighborhoods, and communities, noting that peace among individuals forms the foundation for peace among nations.
Meanwhile, the Khadi revealed that the Muslim community in the region is seeking 25 billion shillings to construct the Al-Fatah Education Centre. The facility is planned to be built at Karambi Mosque in Fort Portal North Division.
Sheikh Hakim explained that many Muslim families in Tooro currently send their children to Kampala for theological studies. He noted that the proposed center aims to bring these services closer to the community by establishing a comprehensive institution within the region.
Once completed, the center will include a primary school, a secondary school, a vocational training institute, and a Qur’an memorization (Hifz) school, offering both day and boarding sections.
Nasib Mwesige, a resident of Fort Portal, urged fellow Muslims to continue performing acts of mercy and charity toward the needy, as demonstrated during the holy month of Ramadan, so as to attain greater blessings from Allah.
