KAMPALA – As the country prepares for local government and city polls on Thursday, 22nd January 2026, in which voters will select leaders for positions such as Mayors, Councilors, and District Chairpersons, the Uganda Police Force has vowed to deal with possible disruptions.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Ms Racheal Kawala, on Wednesday said that “security agencies remain fully committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens during and after the elections.”
Kawala revealed that joint security operations and deployments are ongoing across the metropolitan area to counter any threats to life and property.
“The priority of the security forces remains the protection of life and property, the maintenance of law and order, and the overall preservation of peace.” Said Ms. Kawala

“We are adequately prepared to ensure that there are no disruptions at polling stations. Individuals planning to cause disruptions, violence, or engage in any unlawful acts are strongly warned to desist, “she added, explaining that “lawlessness will not be tolerated.”
