KAMPALA – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has slammed claims that the party facilitated its candidates for the positions of directly elected members of parliament with a whopping 700,000,000 each.
According to the December 2025 ‘fake’ purportedly written and signed by the Secretary General to all NRM flag bearers for the position of directly elected Member of Parliament, the NRM allegedly gave out the money as a token of appreciation to all voters in the respective constituencies.
“This contribution from the party is an appreciation of 700,000,000 (Seven hundred million only) from the president and National Chairman to all voters in your constituency. Each voter will receive an average of 50,000/= (Fifty Thousand shillings only) as an appreciation from the president for your support to peace through a democratic process,” the letter read.

Posting on his X account on Saturday 3rd January, the NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong denied the internal memo that was circulating on social media saying it “did not originate from my office, was not authored, sanctioned, or issued by any authorized organ of the NRM Secretariat, and does not reflect the position, policy, or communication of the Party.”
“The contents, language, figures quoted, and the manner of presentation are false, misleading, and deliberately crafted to defame the Office of the Secretary General and mislead the public. Members of the public, party structures, and all stakeholders are advised to treat the document with utmost contempt and disregard it entirely. The NRM Secretariat communicates only through established, verifiable, and official channels.” Said Todwong
“The circulation of forged documents is a criminal act, and the Party reserves the right to pursue appropriate legal and administrative action against individuals involved in the creation and dissemination of this malicious falsehood.” He warned
