MPs hail NRM CEC for endorsing Among and Tayebwa

KAMPALA – National Resistance Movement (NRM) legislators Naome Kabasharira and Dicksons Kateshumbwa have hailed NRM’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) for endorsing Rt. Hon Anita Annet Among and her Deputy Thomas Tayebwa for a second term as Speaker and Deputy, respectively.

Hon. Kabasharira, the Rushenyi County Member of Parliament, told Tayari that the move by CEC affirms NRM’s tradition of allowing speakers to serve at least two terms of office.

“These two people had just served one term, and there is a tradition in the NRM that someone serves at least two terms. One term may not be enough for someone to have consolidated enough.” Said Hon. Kabasharira

“When you get a second term, you learn from your mistakes and do better. We have served with these two people, and I think they will continue to perform better,” she opined

The veteran politician also thanked CEC for this decision, explaining that the decision clears the air against the speculations that have been making the rounds. “Now, this gives us the correct direction.”

The Sheema Municipality legislator, Hon. Kateshumbwa, who was recently voted for the second time, says CEC has saved time since, in his own view, Uganda tends to spend more time on ‘politicking.’

“The decision was timely because immediately after the parliamentary elections, people came up to contest for the positions of the speaker and deputy. Here in Uganda, we tend to spend a lot of time politicking, and we fail to do what we ought to be doing,” said Kateshumbwa

The CEC meeting that endorsed Among and Tayebwa was chaired by President Yoweri Museveni at State House, Entebbe, on Tuesday.
