Manchester United Sacks Manager Ruben Amorim

Manchester United on Monday, 5th January, sacked their head coach, Ruben Amorim, after 14 months in charge, following tensions at Old Trafford.

Amorim was dismissed after a meeting with Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox, who appointed former club star Darren Fletcher to take charge of the team for Wednesday’s game at Burnley.

Sources said Amorim’s emotional and inconsistent behaviour, refusal to adapt and evolve his preferred 3-4-3 system, led the head coach into trouble.

Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.

During the meeting with director of football Jason Wilcox on Friday, where the team’s tactical approach was discussed in detail, the bosses felt Amorim’s response was negative and expressive.

Another Monday morning meeting with Wilcox and Omar Berrada, United’s chief executive, determined the fate of the Portuguese coach, whose position became untenable.

“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly decided that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish,” a Manchester United statement read.
