ENTEBBE – President Yoweri K. Museveni has asked the residents of Wakiso district to fully engage in peri-Urban agriculture by investing in enterprises like poultry, horticulture and growing of high-value crop vegetables that don’t require much land.

The President made these remarks on Monday, 5th January 2026, while addressing a campaign rally at the Ministry of Works grounds in Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso district.

“Here in Entebbe, there are many chances of engaging in these agricultural activities in your backyards. These can easily bring money and help you to fight poverty. Fighting poverty has been our message since the 1960s, before we got into government,” said Museveni

Tipping the residents and authorities on how they can boost the revenue base in their area, President Museveni explained that by developing modern beaches on the shores of Lake Victoria, setting up international hotels can attract tourists and promote the tourism sector, which is among the sources of revenue.

“These tourists just need beaches with good sand for them to breathe good air, and they give us too much money,” said Museveni.

Local markets boost

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer further announced new market funds aimed at supporting market vendors to expand their businesses across the country, noting that the initiative targets market vendors nationwide and will provide affordable borrowing to help traders grow their enterprises. This announcement was met with applause and excitement from supporters at the rally.

He also confirmed plans by the NRM to establish regional wealth creation funds, which he said will support sectors of the economy that have not yet fully benefited from government financing, noting that the funds will be rolled out with specific financing schemes and urged citizens to actively monitor their utilisation to ensure accountability.

According to the President, the initiative will integrate various groups, including local leaders, fishing communities, ghetto youth, and other underserved sectors. He also pledged to increase Parish Development Model (PDM) funding to 300 million shillings per parish in the next phase.

Addressing the needs of the fishing communities, Museveni acknowledged that the current one million shillings allocated under PDM is insufficient to support fishing-related businesses.

“When I went to Lake Albert, they taught me that 1million for PDM is insufficient for fishing communities because it cannot buy boat engines, modern fishing nets. Therefore, we agreed to put up a fund for fishermen per zone.” Museveni pledged, adding, “I want you to demand this money because I realised there is a lot of laxity among my people who are in charge”

Road network

Museveni also assured residents of Entebbe and Wakiso District that the government will expedite the completion of major road projects, including the Kisubi–Nakawuka–Mpigi road,  Nakawuka–Nateete road, and other ongoing works, to improve transport, mobility, and business operations.
