Bobi Wine leads in only 17 Districts

As the Electoral Commission (EC) continues to release provisional presidential election results, opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has been shown leading in only 17 of the country’s 146 districts, according to figures from the sixth declaration of results.

‎The districts where Bobi Wine holds an advantage are largely concentrated in the Buganda and Busoga regions, which have traditionally leaned towards the opposition in recent electoral cycles. In Busoga, Bobi Wine was leading in four districts, while in Buganda, which comprises 26 districts, he was ahead in 13, mainly in the central and southern parts of the region.

‎President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) dominated most of the remaining Buganda districts, particularly those located within the so-called cattle corridor. A notable exception was Luwero district, where Bobi Wine maintained his lead.

‎Of the districts where the opposition was ahead, only two—Kyotera and Jinja—had complete results from all polling stations by the sixth release.‎

‎In Jinja district, full results from all 324 polling stations showed Bobi Wine winning with 32,821 votes, representing 50.95 percent of the valid votes cast, narrowly ahead of Museveni’s 29,949 votes, or 46.49 percent.

Voter turnout was relatively low, with 66,160 voters participating out of 140,262 registered voters, translating to about 47 percent. This pattern mirrors trends observed in some urban and opposition-leaning areas, potentially linked to logistical challenges or voter suppression concerns.‎

‎In Kyotera district, results from all 354 polling stations showed Bobi Wine securing 43,927 votes, equivalent to 54.18 percent of the valid votes cast. Museveni trailed with 36,274 votes, while third-placed candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi received 6,452 votes. Voter turnout stood at 82,750 out of 147,536 registered voters, or approximately 56.08 percent.

‎No other districts where Bobi Wine was leading had completed full reporting by the time of the sixth declaration, meaning margins in those areas remain provisional and subject to change as results from remaining polling stations are tallied.

‎Nationwide, EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama reported that results from 47,499 out of 50,739 polling stations, representing about 94 percent, had been tallied at the national tally centre in Lweza.‎

‎Earlier provisional national figures indicate that President Museveni continues to command a substantial lead, with about 71.88 percent of the vote in partial tallies, while Bobi Wine is in second position with approximately 24.46 percent.
