KABALE – The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Gaddie Akanjuna, has urged Christians to celebrate the Easter season responsibly while embracing forgiveness, unity, and spiritual renewal.
Delivering his Easter message to journalists at his office on Rugarama Hill in the Northern Division of Kabale Municipality, Bishop Akanjuna cautioned believers against excessive celebrations that could negatively impact their lives after the festive period.
He noted that during such occasions, many people tend to misuse resources in the name of enjoyment, only to face financial and social challenges afterward. He emphasized the need for self-control and wise decision-making, reminding Christians that Easter is not only a time for celebration but also a period for reflection and renewal.
“Christians should celebrate in a way that reflects their faith and values, avoiding actions that may lead to regret,” he said.
The bishop stressed that Easter, which commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, carries a deeper spiritual meaning that calls for believers to draw closer to God and strengthen their faith beyond the Lenten season.
He encouraged Christians to use the period to examine their lives, renew their commitment to God, and maintain spiritual discipline even after the festivities.
Bishop Akanjuna also called for discipline among the public, warning against behaviors that could lead to conflict, violence, or moral decline within communities. He urged individuals and families to uphold respect, responsibility, and peaceful coexistence during the celebrations.
The bishop urged Christians to mend broken relationships and seek peace with those they may have differences with, noting that forgiveness is fundamental to unity and harmony.
“Easter is a time to restore relationships and promote peace in families and communities,” he said, adding that believers should emulate the example of Christ, who demonstrated forgiveness even in the face of suffering.
He further highlighted the importance of generosity and compassion, encouraging Christians to extend support to the less privileged during the Easter season. According to the bishop, acts of kindness and charity not only uplift those in need but also strengthen community bonds and reflect the core teachings of Christianity.
“Helping those in need is a true expression of love and faith,” he emphasized.
The bishop also reminded believers that Easter carries a message of hope and renewal, symbolizing victory over suffering and death. He urged Christians to remain hopeful and resilient, even in difficult circumstances, noting that challenges do not define the end of one’s journey.
In addition, Bishop Akanjuna called on parents, community leaders, and religious institutions to guide young people during the festive season. He stressed the importance of instilling values of discipline, responsibility, and faith among the youth.
He concluded by urging Christians to focus on meaningful and constructive activities that promote personal growth and community well-being, emphasizing that responsible celebrations, forgiveness, and kindness are key to building a harmonious society.
As Christians across the country mark the Easter season, the bishop’s message serves as a reminder to celebrate with purpose while upholding the values of faith, unity, and compassion.
