KABALE – The Bishop of Kabale Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, has challenged Christians to embrace humility as they begin the sacred period of Holy Week.
Bishop Rubaramira made the call on Sunday while celebrating Palm Sunday Mass at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral in Kabale Municipality, where hundreds of faithful gathered to mark the beginning of the Holy Week, an important week in the Christian calendar.
In his homily, the bishop urged Christians to reflect deeply on the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, emphasizing that humility remains a central virtue in the Christian faith.
“Jesus Christ showed us the true meaning of humility. He lowered himself, accepted suffering, and even death on the cross for our sins. As Christians, we are called to follow that example,” Bishop Rubaramira said.
He noted that Christ’s journey to the cross is a powerful reminder that true greatness comes through sacrifice, obedience, and love for others.
“We must not only speak about Christ, but live like Him. Let humility guide your actions in your families, your communities, and in everything you do,” he added.
Bishop Rubaramira explained that the events commemorated during Holy Week should inspire believers to live lives guided by humility, love, and sacrifice, especially during a time when many face social and economic challenges.
“This Holy Week should be a time of reflection and renewal. Let us examine ourselves, repent of our sins, and return to God with sincere hearts,” he emphasized.
He further called on the faithful to use the Holy Week period to strengthen their relationship with God through prayer, repentance, and acts of charity, noting that faith must be both practiced and lived.
“Prayer alone is not enough if it does not transform us. We must show our faith through kindness, generosity, and caring for those in need,” he said.
The bishop also emphasized the importance of unity among Catholics, urging them to foster oneness in faith and avoid divisions that weaken the Church.
“As Catholics, we are one family. Let us remain united in faith, support one another, and work together for the good of the Church and our communities,” Bishop Rubaramira urged.
Palm Sunday is the Christian celebration that falls on the Sunday before Easter. The feast commemorates Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, an event mentioned in each of the four Canonical gospels recorded in the Bible.
