KISORO- The wife of the Bishop of Muhabura Diocese in the Church of Uganda, Maama Annah Mbitse, has called on women to remain respectful and supportive of their husbands—even in difficult situations such as when they return home drunk.

While speaking as the chief guest during the belated International Women’s Day celebrations held in Kisoro District, Annah Mbitse emphasised the importance of maintaining family values and respect within marriage.

“Men remain the heads of families and deserve respect at all times, regardless of their shortcomings. Even when a husband comes home drunk, a woman should remain patient and continue to care for her family,” she said, adding that women play a critical role in shaping society and maintaining harmony in homes.

Mbitse also praised First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni for her humility, describing her as a role model for women across the country.

“The humility of Mama Janet Museveni has greatly contributed to the stability of this nation. Women should learn from her example.”

Highlighting the importance of unity, Mbitse pointed to the First Family as a symbol of strong values.

“The unity in the First Family reflects values that all Ugandan families should emulate if we are to build a strong nation,” She further stressed that women should recognize their worth while upholding respect in their homes.

“Women are the source of happiness in society, but many do not realise their value. A God-fearing woman stands out and earns true respect from her family and community.”

The Kisoro District Women’s Chairperson, Lydia Mugisha, commended the government for supporting women through empowerment programs.

“We appreciate the government for the continued support towards women empowerment initiatives,” Mugisha said.

In her message delivered by Lydia Mugisha, the Kisoro District Woman MP, Grace Akifeza, encouraged women to promote love and care within their families.

“Women should show love and care for their husbands to promote harmony in families. I will continue to support programs aimed at improving the welfare of women and children,” Akifeza said in her message.

The Kisoro Resident District Commissioner, Hajj Badru Ssebyala, called for unity and spirituality among residents, especially during the fasting period.

“Let us remain united and continue praying for one another, especially during this time of fasting,” he urged.

This year’s celebrations in Kisoro centred on promoting unity, strengthening family values, and empowering women to actively contribute to national development.
