RUBANDA – Police in Rubanda District have launched investigations into a fatal hit-and-run road crash that claimed the life of a 36-year-old man identified as Albert Nuwamanya, a resident of Muyumbu in Kyanamira Sub-county, Kabale District.
According to the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the incident occurred on the night of March 16th, 2026, at around 8:00 PM at Bubare Trading Centre along the Kabale–Kisoro Road in Rubanda District.
“It is alleged that the rider of motorcycle registration number UFQ 036L, a red Bajaj Boxer, was heading from Kabale towards Kisoro when an unidentified motor vehicle, moving in the same direction, knocked him from behind, killing him instantly before speeding off,” ASP Maate said.
Police officers visited and documented the scene, and the body of the deceased was later transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
“The motorcycle has been towed to Rubanda Central Police Station pending inspection as investigations continue,” Maate added.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the unidentified driver as investigations into the matter continue.
“We appeal to anyone with information that can help in identifying or tracing the motor vehicle involved to report to the nearest police station,” Maate urged.
