KABALE – Kabale Chief Magistrates Court has issued a criminal summons to the National Unity Platform (NUP) Vice President for Western Uganda, Jacklyn Jolly Tukamushaba, for defying bail terms.
The prosecution on Tuesday, 24th February, heard that the suspect was not in court for the hearing of the case in which she is accused of inciting violence against NRM supporters.
The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kabale last week granted bail to Tukamushaba after she presented sureties and paid one million Uganda shillings in cash.
Tukamushaba, who contested for the Rukiga District Woman Member of Parliament seat on the NUP ticket, was allegedly abducted on January 14th, 2026, while distributing agents’ appointment letters and facilitation. She reportedly resurfaced three weeks later in custody and was subsequently presented before the court.
On February 6th, 2026, Tukamushaba was charged and remanded by Chief Magistrate Derrick Byamugisha on allegations of inciting violence. She was remanded to Ndorwa Government Prison until February 24th, 2026.
Prosecution told the court that between December 2025 and January 2026, Tukamushaba allegedly incited members of the public to commit acts of violence in various parts of Western Uganda, including Rukiga, Kabale, and Rukungiri districts, contrary to Section 79(1) of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128.
It further alleged that she urged individuals to attack supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) based on their political affiliation. However, Tukamushaba pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
On 19th February, Tukamushaba, through her lawyer Godwin Masereka of Elgon Advocates, applied for a production warrant and was subsequently produced in court. The defence presented four sureties, including Leopold Twesigye, Emmanuel Turyasigura, Twesigye Luke, and Jiripina Kamusiime.
Chief Magistrate Derrick Byamugisha granted Tukamushaba cash bail of one million shillings and bonded each of the four sureties at five million shillings non-cash. The case was adjourned to February 24th, 2026, for mention as investigations continue.
Tukamushaba was expected to appear in court on Tuesday, but she was a no-show and the Chief Magistrate, Derrick Byamugisha, adjourned the case to 7th March, 2026, and a criminal summons was issued against her by the same court for defying bail terms.
