MBARARA – The Government of Uganda has deepened its plans to expand the Nyakisharara Aerodrome in Mbarara into a mega international Airport to facilitate connections between Brazil and China.

According to the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the construction of such a big airport in the remote side of Uganda is strategically informed by the unfolding affluence.

“Why such a big airport in the hitherto remote area of Uganda? It is all on account of the hitherto unknown factor of the way the Globe was arranged by God and the new phenomenon of the unfolding global affluence.” The President stated in the 11th February 18, 2026, letter written to the Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja

“This Phenomenon has seen the hitherto underdeveloped parts of the Globe, becoming very prosperous. Two parts of the Globe are very crucial in connection with this issue. These are: Latin America, especially Brazil and China. These two zones of the Globe are now trading and communicating with one another.” He added

The President’s letter directs the Prime Minister and other concerned government departments to help Base Seven Company implement a mega transport project at and around the Government Aerodrome using Nyakisharara as a nucleus.

President Museveni holds that the current route of communication between Latin America and Brazil is wholly irrational and uneconomic, and if expanded into an international Airport, Nyakisharara will ease the means of connection.

“What is that route? It is South America, over the Atlantic, over Europe, Asia, etc., to China and back. It takes 34 – 42 hours. Yet, if somebody were to come from Brazil, refuel at Nyakisharara, it would take him 20 hours of flying time. It takes 9 hours from South America to Nyakisharara and 11 hours from Nyakisharara to China.”

Base Seven Company will use their own money to do the developments and recover it by charging the users of the Airport and the accompanying facilities, such as the hotels they will build there. They will use the strategy of BOT (Build Operate and Transfer) to the government after an agreed period.

The project will be financed by Hunnan and Black Rock, and the operator will be nominated by the Financier.

The whole project will cover 21 Square Kilometers of land, and it will have two runways, measuring 5.5 kilometres long each. There will also be a reserve runway for VIPs that will measure 3.7 km long. They will use the Government land of the Aerodrome and its surroundings, plus the land they will buy from the nearby land owners.

The project will shift the Ibanda-Mbarara Public road to a point to the East of Nyakisharara.
The President has asked the Prime Minister to agree with them, guiding that should the new road be Bwizibwera – Makoonje – Kaigoshoora – Kyamugorani road or what, the project implementers will, at their cost, construct the road.

He has also told the Premier to involve all the concerned sectors, such as the Ministry of Works and Transport, the Ministry of Lands, the Ministry of Finance, the Attorney-General, etc.
