MBARARA – Ms. Violet Atuhurra, the returning officer for Mbarara City on Wednesday morning declared Mr. Jomo Mugabi and Mr. Kyabwisho Gumisiriza Katozi winners for the Mayoral seat for Mbarara City South division and Mbarara City North division respectively.
Kyabwisho(Ind) defeated Mr. Benon Mugume, the (NRM flag bearer) and three others including Kamwebaze Mukasa(Ind), Ivan Murindwa (Ind) and Nasser Abdul(Ind).
Kyabwisho garnered 8183 votes, Benon Mugume got 7226 votes, Kamwebaze got 120 votes, while Ivan Murindwa got two votes.
In Mbarara City South division, Mr. Mugabi(NRM) polled 14277 votes followed by Asiimwe Ntengye(Ind) who got 5562 votes, Mr Reagan Byamukama(FDC) with 86 votes, Kabateraine Mary Francis Ssemambo(ANT) got 315 votes whereas Quraishi Segawa(NUP) polled 764 votes.
What the winners intend to do.
Kyabwisho revealed that much focus will be put on opening new roads to ease the movement of agricultural goods to the market.
“We have tried to open new roads, but some still require periodic and routine maintenance. This is what we shall focus on in this term of office to see that our city is connected with motorable roads to facilitate infrastructural development, stated Kwabwisho.
He added, “We have a challenge of limited markets in our town, we want to open more markets, especially those that operate at night on streets like Maj. Victor Bwana road to allow people carry on businesses at night”
Adding that plans are already in the offing to improve markets in Kiyanja, Andrews, Koranorya, and Biharwe, and opening up a livestock market.
Kyabwisho emphasised that they want to ensure that sectors like education and health are also prioritised.
Jomo Mugabi assured his supporters and all the residents in Mbarara City South that he will continue to serve as a bridge between the residents and the central government if development and better services are to be realised in the area.
