WAKISO – The president of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has described the funds under the Parish Development Model (PDM) as “sweeter” than money borrowed from money lenders, which is accessed at a high interest rate.
While addressing his National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters at Kawanda Agricultural Research Laboratories in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso district, on Tuesday, 6th January 2025, President Museveni said that PDM money is in high demand.
“We are aware that the PDM funds have not reached everyone in the country, but I’m glad that everyone has seen the sweetness. PDM funds are sweeter than the money that you get from moneylenders. That is why people are fighting for our money,” stated Museveni
“We are aware that the funds are not enough, that is why in the next term of office, we are going to add more shs100m at every parish.” He pledged
President Museveni revealed that Wakiso District has so far received Shs.52 billion under the PDM program, benefiting 47,000 families. He promised to sort out the challenges the PDM program is facing.
“If there was unfair distribution of PDM funds, we shall sort it out. I have already directed Raphael Magyezi, the Minister for local government and the team at the PDM secretariat to investigate how PDM committees at every parish were elected.” He said
President Museveni said that since 1997, the NRM government has been sending money for wealth creation in people’s homes.
“We started with Entandikwa, NAADS, Operation Wealth Creation, Emyooga, Youth Livelihood Programme, and now Parish Development Model. All these have had an impact, but not reached everybody,” he noted
He encouraged residents to actively participate in parish SACCO meetings to ensure transparency and successful implementation of the PDM initiative, which he described as a landmark wealth creation program.
The First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni, Minister for Education and Sports, who had accompanied the President on rallies, asked Ugandans to vote for the NRM government in the 15th January general elections to maintain a stable and peaceful country.
“I want to use this opportunity to remind the youth and all Ugandans to learn how to ask what they can do for their country before they ask what the country can do for them. That is why I want to tell you that your vote is the only brick you can put on the house of Uganda,” said Janet Museveni.
“Old people who are here can testify where Uganda has come, especially with bad roads, but now has beautiful and modern roads, and we should not forget this milestone,” she added.
